Serame Letsoaka laments performance in Free State Stars match in charge

Free State Stars coach Serame Letsoaka lamented his side's performance against Kaizer Chiefs in his first match in charge of the club.

Stars were outplayed by the home side as they suffered a 3-1 defeat in their Absa Premiership fixture at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Letsoaka, who joined Ea Lla Koto just a month ago after leaving Bloemfontein Celtic in October last year, felt his side failed to make the most of their ball possession in the early stages and thus suffered the consequences.

"I think I share the same sentiments with Steve [Komphela] in saying we started a little bit better [than Chiefs]," Letsoaka told reporters after the match.

"But we were playing a lot of balls backwards, which was our undoing. In the first 15 minutes, where we had ball possession, if we had gone forward more maybe it would have benefitted us.

"Playing backwards a lot, you saw the first free-kick we conceded – an unnecesary one, and if you look at the second goal conceded, it was from a ball that was played backwards to the goalkeeper.

"Also, we didn't use the ball properly, our turnovers were a little bit slow. I still feel that we could have done better."

Letsoaka also admitted that he was left unimpressed by some of players he expected more from in his first match in charge, but refused to single them out.

"But individual players in my team, I think, they could have really done a little bit better. I can't really single out the players who I feel did not give me what I was expecting in this game," he added.
