Michael Boxall delighted to reach SuperSport United milestone

SuperSport United defender Michael Boxall has expressed his delight at reaching 50 appearances in all competitions in the Premier Soccer League.
Boxall joined the Tshwane side at the start of the 2015/16 season and completed his 50th club appearance in the PSL, marking it with an assist, when SuperSport beat Polokwane City 2-1 in their last league game.
The 28-year-old, who already has the Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup titles to his name, was unaware of the feat, and says it brings him great joy to have reached such a milestone in his PSL career.
"I had no idea, thanks for filling me in," he tells KickOff.com. "I've really enjoyed my time here [in South Africa], so to get to that milestone is probably the happiest I've felt in a couple of weeks.
"But, obviously, I'm looking forward to the next [game]. That's all you do as a professional footballer, you look forward to the next game and then numbers like 50 and 100 pop up, and it's a very good feeling."
Boxall got off to a forgettable start when former Matsatsantsa coach Gordon Igesund threw him on in a pre-season friendly against Crystal Palace, shortly after arriving from Down Under.
The Kiwi international recalls his devestating unofficial club debut, but says he is pleased with how far he has come, while also confessing his contentment under current coach Stuart Baxter.
"I clearly wasn't ready, but obviously the coach at the time just wanted to fast track me in because I only arrived three weeks or so before our first game," he adds.
"So he just wanted to fast track me, which might not have been the best thing, but I think in the long run it hasn't really hurt me too much, and I'm happy where I am right now.
"Obviously it set me back a little bit, it's certainly not the way you want to introduce yourself to South African football, and even after that it took a while to adjust.
"But since then, and since Stuart's taken over, I've really enjoyed my time here, and I hope to play another 50 more [matches] – it would be cool."
SuperSport will get their second half of the 2016/17 campaign back underway when they host Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.
