SuperSport United have been boosted by the return from injury of defender Tefu Mashamaite, who is ready to get back into the thick of things.
‘Masha’ joined the Absa Premiership leaders from Swedish outfit BK Hacken on transfer deadline day in August last year, after a 12-month stint abroad which earned him a Swedish Cup title.
The 32-year-old centre-back, however, has missed the first four months of action through a knee injury that required surgery. He has since fully recovered and took part in their recent preparations for the second half of the campaign.
“Yeah, I’m fine… I didn’t play [last year] because I was injured, and I had to do an op, so I just came back now,” confirmed Mashamaite at the club’s training base in Woodmead on Monday morning.
“I’ve played in preparation games. We went to Mpumalanga for a one-week camp. We played two games and I played both. Right now it’s all about match fitness, just getting back steadily.”
Matsatsantsa will kick-start the new year with the hosting of sixth-placed Golden Arrows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening, before visiting Madagascan side Elgeco Plus in their 2017 CAF Confederation Cup opener on Sunday.
The former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart says he would be happy just to make the match-day squad, as he looks to slowly work his way back into the team.
“I think the best thing for me now is just to get myself fit enough to be selected, I shouldn’t be worried about whether I’m going to play against the Madagascan team or Arrows, or whatever,” he added.
“[My only worry is] just being in a state of mind where, if I get selected then, I’m ready to go."
