Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi admits that facing Cape Town All Stars in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 will be tricky, but remains optimistic of advancing to the next round.
Wits will travel to Cape Town in the opening round of this year's Nedbank Cup, which is set to take place during the week of March 8-14.
Mkhwanazi believes the First Division outfit will present a tough challenge, but asserts the Clever Boys' target of overcoming the Cape-based side and reaching the round of 16.
“It’s a tricky draw because we don’t know anything about the team, but we are determined and taking the game seriously," the towering central defenderi told his club's website.
"Our focus is to play a great game and try to advance to the next stage."
The 27-year-old, who hails from Bloemfontein, adds that gaining winning momentum in the league, in the build up to their cup clash, will be crucial to their advancement.
“Nedbank Cup games are like a one day international [in cricket terms] – it’s either you win it or you’re out," said Mkhwanazi.
"We need to use the Absa Premiership games as an opportunity to gain momentum before the Cup and really play the best football we can.”
Meanwhile, All Stars captain Mlungisi Mbunjana relishes the opportunity of facing the Premiership title hopefuls in the cup encounter.
“It’s a great fixture, I am really looking forward to the match," added Mbunjana. "It’s always valuable in terms of exposure and experience to play against a team that’s playing in the PSL.”
