Kapini happy to draw PSL side in cup

Highlands Park goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini says he is glad they drew a PSL team in the Nedbank Cup, rather than one of the SAFA minnows.

The Lions of the North will face Free State Stars in the last-32 in March, in one of only two all-PSL ties, following the Ke Yona draw on Thursday.

And while many would fancy their chances against lower-league opposition, Kapini is of the impression that familiarity, rather than perceived superiority, will give them a better chance of progressing.

“It’s a cup game and it’s much better to play a team that you know and Free State Stars, we know them,” Kapini tells

“It’s difficult when you get drawn with some SAFA team that you don’t know that much, so I think this is a good draw and if we apply ourselves as Highlands Park I think we will come up with the result going to the Last 16.”

Kapini said also scoring goals away from home is not a problem for them, so playing away won’t affect them.

“We are good travellers and we always score away, and this is a cup game and it's different to a league game, so if we score I think we will be able to defend the goals that we're going to score away.

“However, it’s not easy to play at Global Park but I know with the mentality the guys have at this moment I think we are going to win the match,” he added.
