Tony de Nobrega to give Aiden Jenniker a fair chance to prove his worth at Santos

Santos coach Tony de Nobrega informs KickOff.com he is prepared to give Aidan Jenniker a fair chance to prove he is worthy of a place in the People’s Team.
De Nobrega’s comments come after the 27-year-old defender resurfaced at the NFD side this week, having been without a club since his release by Ajax Cape Town in November last year.
Jenniker also had two trial stints with Highlands Park recently but couldn’t convince Lions coach Gordon Igesund of handing him a contract.
“We’re giving him an opportunity to get fit first and we haven’t made a decision on him yet,” De Nobrega tells KickOff.com.
“He’s been out of football for a long time. He’s out of shape and he knows that. But we are prepared to work with him if he is prepared to work and get himself fit and into shape.
"So we’ll give him a bit of time,” said the former Vasco da Gama mentor.
De Nobrega also confirmed they’ve snapped up the services of the former Stellenbosch FC defensive duo Nathan Gertse and Keeno Shellar to add some experience to his side.
“The two of them are fighters, I know them,” De Nobrega further explains.
“That’s why we bent over backwards to get them here. It’s good to have them as they bring a different dimension to the team and a bit more fight,” he stated.
De Nobrega adds he was under no illusion to the task at hand with Santos and says his first few weeks at the Cape-based club were “interesting” to say the least.
“It’s tough you know. The squad definitely needs improvement and more quality that we’re trying to bring in but it’s difficult to find quality, it’s not easy.
“It’s been really interesting getting to know some of the players I don’t know, their strengths and weaknesses. We’ve given everyone a fair opportunity the ones that have been here. Unfortunately, we have moved one or two out.
“But things are looking quite positive over the last few weeks,” De Nobrega concludes.
