Struggling Absa Premiership outfit Free State Stars have rung in the changes this transfer window, announcing the signing of five new players, and releasing seven members of their current squad.

Nhlakanipho Ntuli headlines the new faces brought in by Ea Lla Koto, alongside ex-Maritzburg United frontman Mohammed Anas, who had earlier reported was finalising terms with the Free State side.

Stars released a statement on Friday confirming the movement of the players.

‘In addition to the five new players arriving to the club, Ea Lla Koto have released seven first-team players during the current transfer window,' the statement read.

‘New manager Serame Letsoaka has been reunited with one of his former players from Bloemfontein Celtic, Thabang Matuka, while former Kaizer Chiefs defender Simphiwe Mtsweni has also joined, both on free transfers.

‘Two strikers Mohammed Anas and Allen Dorian Nono have also been roped in with Mokoena citing their lack of goals in the first-half of the campaign as their main concern to rectify.

‘The fifth signing of Nhlakanipho Ntuli, is considered as the marquee signing with the South Africa youth international joining his first professional club in South Africa since leaving Eredivisie side FC Twente.

'The following players were released by mutual consent, Reabetsoe Rakoti, Tshepo Mothiba, David Booysen, Johnny Mathole, Brandon Dean, Hamis Kizza and Mohamed Aoudou.’

Stars General manager Rantsi Mokoena says he’s delighted with the business conducted by the club as they look to climb the league standings in the second half of the campaign.

“We have made use of the window period and the AfCON break in making sure that we assess and sign five quality players to strengthen the team,” Mokoena said. “The team is ready to compete in the second round of the season.

“We were struggling to find the back of the net and we have brought in two quality strikers to help out Sekotlong upfront whose injury is coming well and should be ready in no time.

“We also struggled a bit on the left hand side but we have also brought in two experience players to compete in that department,” he added.

“As Free State Stars we would like to wish the players that have left the team the best of luck in their future endeavors and we warmly welcome the new guys.”

Stars, who sit 14th in the Absa premiership standings, take on Kaizer Chiefs in their first match of 2017, taking place on 7 February at FNB Stadium.
