KickOff.com has been informed that there is little chance of Leonardo Castro leaving Mamelodi Sundowns for a local team this year as he would command a hefty transfer fee.
There have been wild suggestions that Kaizer Chiefs are keen on poaching the Colombian but this website has been told nothing of the sort has ever been discussed or is in the pipeline.
“There is absolutely no way that Castro can leave for another local team when he is still under contract at Sundowns [until June 2018] due to the obvious reasons related to the transfer fee,” a close source tells KickOff.com.
“A local transfer has never ever been discussed. He is happy at Sundowns and looking forward to continuing playing football this year. Contract talks will be dealt with towards the end of the year and those talks will be with Sundowns first.”
Upon joining Sundowns at the beginning of last season, Castro initially signed a one-year deal with two extension options that have since been activated by The Brazilians, which puts his contract end date as June 2018.
He has scored 15 goals for the club, although this season he was disrupted by an injury picked up early in the campaign and he only returned to action in November.
The 27-year-old is settled at Chloorkop and has also been buoyed by the arrival of his fiancée and daughter in South Africa after spending his first year at Downs without them.
