Felipe Ovono to make way for James Okwuosa at Orlando Pirates

Posted: 23 January 2017 Time: 14:05 has established that Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Felipe Ovono is the man expected to vacate a foreign spot at Orlando Pirates for Nigerian defender James Okwuosa.

This website yesterday broke the news that Pirates had signed Okwuosa and fullback Marc van Heerden from Chippa United as part of a swap deal involving Justice Chabalala, Donald Mokondelela, Sello Japhta and Nkosinathi Mthiyane.

Ovono, meanwhile, has been frozen out at Mayfair since making two early season blunders, with the club settled on the fact that they will have to allow him to leave.

His handlers have since been pursuing options in North Africa and the Middle East, while they have also found a Turkish club keen to have a closer look in him.

With each PSL club allowed five foreign players on their books for the season The Bucs will have to free up a space for the arrival of Okwuosa during this transfer window as they already have registered five foreign players in Ovono, Edwin Gyimah, Issa Sarr, Tendai Ndoro and Bernard Morrison.

The new PSL rules state that clubs can de-register players during the January transfer window as long as they have a maximum of five on their books, and that means one has to be sacrificed at Pirates which is Ovono.

Ovono only joined Pirates at the beginning of last season and hasn’t had the best of times at the club, battling to break through and establish himself as first choice.

Pirates still have Brighton Mhlongo and Jackson Mabokgwane as the keepers that they have used this season, though both have made comical errors too, while Siyabonga Mpontshane is back-up.
