South African striker Kermit Erasmus insists that despite his limited appearances for Stade Rennes, he still has what it takes to shine for new club RC Lens.
The former Orlando Pirates frontman was on Friday loaned out to the Ligue 2 club, having made just one start and nine substitute appearances, scoring no goals, since his move to France in January last year.
Yet the 26-year-old is determined to put that behind him as he looks forward to delivering for Lens for the rest of the 2016/17 campaign.
“Before I got to Lens, I had talked with [Lens coach] Alain Casanova. He told me that here was a top team and he was happy to welcome me,” Erasmus is quoted on the club’s official website.
“I did not play as much as I hoped under the colours of Rennes. But I'm glad that Lens has contacted my agents and I, and he shows me an interest in joining a high-level team. It means that I too am a pretty good player.”
Lens currently sit second in Ligue 2 and are eyeing promotion to the French top-flight, with Erasmus hoping to help the team achieve just that.
“My objective is obviously to play regularly and help the team to go up in Ligue 1 and thus contribute to the victories of the team,” he said. “Football is a collective sport so I am not here to achieve personal goals. I will do anything to help the collective sense of the term.”
At the halfway point of the season, Lens sit three points behind leaders Brest after 20 matches played, with Reims only a solitary point behind in third.
