Maritzburg United midfielder Bandile Shandu has signed a new three-year contract with the Team of Choice.
The 22-year-old, who features in the first team and also captains the Diski Challenge side, has been with the club since the age of 13.
New Maritzburg coach Roger de Sa has labelled Shandu a "special talent".
"Having watched him a little bit during the season and now trained with him for the last week, he is definitely a special talent with so much to offer," De Sa told his club's website.
"It’s also good for the city. The more we can have like this the better. We want to grow our own players and show what the city is all about. I think he is going to be a super star, I really do.”
The former Ajax Cape Town boss is also satisfied with the squad at his disposal after taking over the reins from interim coach Fadlu Davids this month. Davids steered the team to eighth in the standings following Ernst Middendorp's resignation in November.
De Sa added: “It’s a decent squad with enough depth. It has a nice mix of experience and youth, foreign and local. They are a bunch of guys that get along very well, a very tight group.
“Within that group, Bandile has grown and grown from what I’ve seen so far. He has just basically got into the first team now, he is not yet regular, but I think he will become, with the ability that he’s got, a professional young man, very level-headed. Having met his father this morning [Thursday], you can tell where all that comes from. He’s a kid that’s gonna go a long way.”
