Ntlaene Secondary School pupils started the New Year in a jovial mood after being presented with school uniform and shoes by Limpopo Sports Wise in Giyane on Wednesday.

Limpopo Sports Wise is a non profit organisation formed by Limpopo-born former and current professional players, including Orlando Pirates defender Justice Chabalala, Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke, Jomo Cosmos striker Wiseman Maluleke, David Mathebula, Tebogo Monyai as well as SAFA referee Victor Hlungwane.

Monyai, a former captain of University of Pretoria, has explained the idea behind the initiative, and reveals what inspired them to give back to the school pupils.

"We started this initiative a long time ago and, as footballers in Limpopo and Nduma Ya Vanwanati Transport, felt we needed to plough back into the community through education," Monyai explains to

"Most of the kids in rural areas struggle with shoes and walk long distances to school. I was also in same situation – travelling long distance to school without shoes – and felt we needed to come back and give these kids something that will encourage them to take education very seriously."
