Baroka FC have released Ugandan duo Geofrey Massa and Khalid Aucho, despite their representative stating they have yet to be informed of the decision.
Massa and Aucho both joined Bakgaga at the beginning of the season, but the club has since excluded them from their plans, as per their mid-season technical report.
The pair are currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, with Massa having played 90 minutes in The Cranes 1-0 defeat to Ghana while Aucho was an unused substitute.
“We have released them as per the club’s technical report, which stated that they do not feature in the club’s plans," Baroka spokesman Jimmy Ngobeni tells KickOff.com.
"This is for the sake of the players, because it doesn’t make sense to keep them when they are not playing. We have already sent them emails to that effect.”
Their representative Ivica Stankovic, however, says he is unaware of such an email, but says a mutual seperation is fine if the players are not in the club's plans.
“I have been in touch with Geofrey and Aucho. Last time we spoke no one from the club contacted them with regards to contract terminations," adds Stankovic.
"I can confirm that no one contacted me either. These things happen in football, and I believe that it’s better to have a good divorce than a bad marriage.”
Massa made just four starts in the Absa Premiership, without finding the back of the net, while Aucho made three starts in the league and Telkom Knockout.
The Limpopo-based outfit have also offloaded Zimbabwean forwad Cleopas Dube, with his countryman Nyasha Muntesi – on loan from Orlando Pirates – the only foreigner that has survived the club’s axe in 2017.
