NFD top scorer Sedwyn George says winning promotion is his priority rather than the Golden Boot, while he is grateful for the encouragement he is receiving from Katlego Mphela and Phumelele Bhengu.
The Royal Eagles striker has hit 14 goals in 12 matches - two more goals than next best Mhlengi Cele of title rivals Thanda Royal Zulu.
George scored four times against Magesi, thrice against FC Cape Town, twice against Milano United and University of Pretoria, and once against Mthatha Bucks, Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards.
The Maritzburg United product admits he is surprised to have bypassed Cele after the Thanda man's prolific start to the season.
"Kind of yes, I was surprised. I think it was surprising to catch up so quickly because I missed about five games before I started playing," George tells KickOff.com.
"It happened in just a short space of time, so it was a bit surprising but now I’m starting to believe I can do much better than that. But my aim isn’t really to get the Golden Boot but to get goals for my team and get through to the PSL. Golden boot, it will just be a bonus."
George is benefiting from the advice of teammates Mphela and Bhengu. 'Killer', who netted 29 goals for Bafana Bafana, notably scored 17 PSL goals in 2009/10. Bhengu plundered 22 NFD goals in 2014/15.
"He [Mphela] does [encourage me]. Him and Bhengu got the top goal scorer, Bhengu in the NFD," George adds.
"I’m getting encouragement from them to help me to keep a clear straight head. I mustn’t drop my head, must keep pushing on. So both of them are encouraging me."
Eagles, who are 10 points shy of log leaders Amabhubesi, next host Stellenbosch FC on February 12 at Harry Gwala Stadium.
