Pirates march past Thanda

Orlando Pirates beat Thanda Royal Zulu FC 3-1 in an Absa Premier League match played at the Johannesburg Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates goals were scored by Bennett Chenene, Excellent Walaza and Paulus Masehe, while Serge Djiehoua netted for Thanda.

Thanda were down to 10-men early in the second half when they had captain Tshepo Mashishi sent off.

The first half was fairly even with both sides having some chances, but during the second half it was all Pirates and they thoroughly deserved the win.

In the 4th minute Senzo Meyiwa made a good diving save to deny Katlego Loke from long-range.

Chenene had a chance in the 36th minute but hammered his long-range shot wide of the upright.

Meyiwa made another good save in the 38th minute when he blocked a fierce shot from an angle by Serge Djiehoua.

The sides went in at the break with the score goalless.

Ryan Botha took a free-kick in the 49th minute from a long-way out, but the ball went over the bar, not troubling the keeper.

In the 56th minute Pirates took the lead when Chenene won the ball in the middle and ran forward to score with a shot, giving Aime Kitenge no chance.

Three minutes later Pirates scored again when Teko Modise put through a defence-splitting pass for Walaza to run onto and place the ball in the back of the net.

Thanda were down to 10-men when they had their captain Tshepo Mashishi sent off when he lashed out against Chenene.

In the 76th minute Thanda pulled a goal back when Djiehoua scored with a stunning long-range free-kick.

Pirates scored again in the 88th minute when a close-range shot by Walaza was blocked by Kitenge, and the ball rebounded out to be crossed back into the area for substitute Masehe to score with his first touch of the ball.

It was a good game..both teams went in there with a good approach...I was dissapointed buy the way this players were conducting themselves(Zulu royals players)..as for Excellent Wallaza..he is just excellent, I think he will be the best striker in SA..just give him enough time..and this is just an example that most South African players are good is just that we don't beleive in our own players...we need to beleive in them..that's it. posted by Donald Vuthlarhi Valoyi...email valoyivd@iburst.co.za
