Maritzburg United's want-away defender Philani Zulu is said to harbour ambitious of playing for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Zulu is holding out on signing a new contract with Maritzburg after being linked with Chiefs, Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars.
According to a source close to Zulu, the 24-year-old is hoping he can land a move to Amakhosi.
"Zulu wants to play for Kaizer Chiefs and that is why he’s holding out to sign a new deal with Maritzburg United, which the player has made it clear that he will not sign," said the source.
"It is the club he grew up supporting," he added.
Meanwhile, Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia is open to selling Zulu in the January transfer window, with the player's existing deal set to expire in June.
"I think first we are looking at resolving this issue where Philani will have to find a new club during this window period," said Kadodia at the club's unveiling of new coach Roger de Sa on Tuesday.
"We are open for talks, we understand football is a business and we would like Philani to extend his contract to stay in Maritzburg. Alternatively, we have to find him a new club."
Zulu, who has played thrice this season, is currently not training with the side as his future remains in the balance at the Team of Choice.
He won the club's Most Consistent Player of the Year award in 2015/16.
