The Soweto derby ignites passions no matter what the platform and this weekend's Multichoice Diski Challenge clash with Kaizer Chiefs has lit a fire in the bellies of the Orlando Pirates reserve team.
Speaking to the club's official website, Ricardo Lourenco - a player who has worn the captain's armband for the young Buccaneers since the second week of the competition - exalts in having the opportunity to feature in what is this weekend's showpiece match.
“It’s my first Derby so I’m both nervous and excited, mostly excited,” he admitted. “It’s an emotional game for everyone, my family and friends have been talking about it since we got back to training.
"We came back very early and have been working hard, the mood in camp is good. I’ll try not let the excitement get to me because I have a responsibility to keep the team calm and level-headed, it won’t be easy though.”
Meanwhile, Lehlohonolo Mtshali speaks about handling the pressure on such a big occasion but is able to draw on his experiences from last year when he played in the goalless draw against Amakhosi that was hosted at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
“I feel excited about playing the derby, it’s always a big game,” said the defender. “There is no PSL football or AFCON for people to watch, so all the focus will be on us in the MDC.
“It won’t be an easy match – that we know, but we have been preparing for this match and I feel that we are ready. I somewhat know what to expect which is why my advice to my teammates would be the following; play as you have trained, don’t try complicate things just because it’s a derby.
"The ball is still round and you have to respect it the same way you do in training or in games that are not the derby."
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates sit in fifth and ninth respectively on the MDC log although only three points separate the sides.
