SAFA have moved to disassociate Diego Maradona, Frank Rijkaard and Lucas Radebe from speculation surrounding the vacant Bafana Bafana job.
The names of potential successors to Shakes Mashaba must have been thrown into the rumour mill recently as SAFA have taken pains to send out a press release to insist they are not talking to the likes of Maradona, Rijkaard and Radebe.
President Danny Jordaan was in Zurich, Switzerland to attend the FIFA Best Awards on Monday night and was spotted mingling with said personalities.
“It bears noting that none of these meetings were to discuss the vacant Bafana Bafana coaching job!” SAFA insists.
Jordaan is now off to Gabon to fulfil a CAF assignment at the 2017 African Nations Cup as a member of the AFCON Organising Committee.
He will return to South Africa to address the coaching matter with CEO Dennis Mumble and the SAFA Technical Committee next week.
The meeting will develop proposed principles of engagement for a new head coach, including defining an updated mandate and other requirements for presentation to the SAFA National Executive Committee.
Interestingly, the national football association appears to be moving forward despite appeals from Mashaba’s legal team not to appoint a new coach until his appeal is processed.
