Siphelele Mthembu still waiting on Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 11 January 2017 Time: 12:01

Bloemfontein Celtic say a decision on Kaizer Chiefs striker Siphelele Mthembu has not yet been made as they are currently focusing on other things.

Phunya Sele Sele returned to training this week and need a good second half of the season to move away from the drop zone.

“For now, no decision has been taken yet on the player,” Celtic co-coach John Maduka tells

“So there’s no truth to reports that we are very close to reaching an agreement with the player. At the moment we are far from that.

“You must remember that we've just started training recently so at the moment we are working on the players’ conditioning, we haven’t kicked a ball yet at training.

“We will make our decision on Mthembu once we’ve done that.”

Celtic CEO club Khumbulani Konco adds that at the moment the player is only being assessed by the technical team.

“Yes, he is here but it’s the two coaches [Maduka and Lehlohonolo Seema] who will decide if they are happy with the player,” Konco says.

Mthembu is not in Amakhosi’s plans and is seeking an exit during the transfer window. Platinum Stars have also been linked with a move for their former striker.
