Papic tells Monama to stay

Royal Eagles head coach Kosta Papic says star player Raymond Monama has a better chance of playing Premier League football next season by sticking with the National First Division promotion hopefuls.

Monama has been linked with top-flight strugglers Bloemfontein Celtic and Baroka FC in this January transfer window, but Papic feels the midfielder has a better future with the KwaZulu-Natal side.

"[Premier League teams] who are fighting relegation?" Papic said when asked how is he going to convince Monama to choose to stay with the NFD side.

"He will stay with us," Papic tells "We will extend his contract. We want straight promotion. We spoke about it, and he takes my advice. This is the best time of his career and he must accept it and work even harder."

Royal Eagles are second on the NFD log, albeit 10 points behind leaders Thanda Royal Zulu, and will return to training on Monday ahead of the re-start of the league season in early February.
