South African-born Sergio Marakis joins Portuguese club Uniao da Madeira
Posted: 5 January 2017
South African-born Sergio Marakis has joined Portuguese second-tier side União da Madeira on an 18-month contract.
União were relegated from the topflight at the end of last season and are fighting the drop again, adding the 25-year-old Johannesburg-born midfielder to their ranks to bolster their chances of survival.
Marakis has been without a club since leaving Cypriot top-flight side Ermis Aradippou midway through last season.
He was set to link up with Nocerina in November, who play in the Italian Serie D, but that move fell through.
