Cape Town City defender Robyn Johannes says the team's willingness to fight for each other under coach Eric Tinkler has driven their success this season.
City are sitting pretty since their formation in June, as they share the Absa Premiership summit over the festive break with SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, while they won the Telkom Knockout earlier this month.
“The players are prepared to fight for one another. We fight till the end,” Johannes told KickOff.com.
“We all give our full commitment and place the needs of the team first, you know. We hardly panic and always back ourselves. This might seem irrelevant to others but it’s what makes us tick and confident in executing the coach’s plans.”
Johannes, who completed a domestic clean sweep with the TKO triumph, added: “The coach created an environment where we as players can express ourselves. We feel free and confident. I know we’re professionals and should get on with the job, but we are guided with the perfect balance between giving and receiving from the coach's point of view.
“Our coach has played at the highest level and he knows exactly what it takes. You can see it coming through in his coaching. He understands his players and the game very well, he’s very knowledgeable.”
