Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Jody February has thanked the club’s fanbase following a difficult start to the 2016/17 campaign.
A struggling start in the early stages of the season saw the Urban Warriors flirt in the relegation zone, taking 10 games to win their first of the season, before Dutch coach Stanley Menzo stepped in to guide the Ajax ship into ninth place by the mid-season break.
And first-choice shot-stopper February has voiced his gratitude to the Cape club’s fans who have stuck with the side through thick and thin.
“These are the supporters who left their homes to come and support us and it’s fair to thank them, you know,” he told the club’s website.
“This club is nothing without their backing, every club from anywhere around the world for that matter. So, we have to thank them for supporting us.
“We didn’t have one of the best starts this season, but they never left us alone, they were always behind us, we appreciate that.”
The national Under-23 keeper then sent out a special Christmas greeting, urging all fans to remain safe and enjoy the festive season.
“It is from all of us to say, they must have a merry Christmas, a happy New Year and I want to urge them to remain safe on the roads,” he said
“We’d like to see them again in 2017 and we can enjoy a good partnership again. They must enjoy this season with families.”
Ajax return to league action in February with a tough away fixture at Bidvest Wits.
