Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk is set to become the first South African female to join a team in the USA.
Van Wyk is set to pen a deal with the Houston Dash, pending approval of her visa and an international transfer certficate, following her displays with the national team.
The 29-year-old defender has made close to 150 appearances with Baynana, since making her debut against Nigeria in 2005, and recently helped the national team to a fourth place finish at the 2016 African Women's Cup of Nations.
She was also nominated as one of the five finalist for the 2016 CAF African Women's Player of the Year award.
"I'm very excited that Janine will join the Dash in 2017. She was recently named as one of the four finalists for the African Footballer of the Year Award – that is the quality she brings to the team,” head coach Randy Waldrum told the club's website.
“Janine also brings a wealth of international experience to the club. I felt we had to address our central defending positions this off-season and add more experience and leadership, Janine certainly fills that need."
Van Wyk has served as a player-coach at her own club JVW, which contests the Sasol National Women's league and finished in second place behind champions Bloemfontein Celtic ladies last season.
