Augusto Palacios says Orlando Pirates stalwart Oupa Manyisa is doing everything possible to recapture his form

Posted: 19 December 2016 Time: 16:30

Orlando Pirates interim coach Augusto Palacios says it may be some time before Oupa Manyisa rediscovers his best form but assures Pirates fans their captain is putting in the necessary work.

Having spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, Manyisa first featured for Pirates this season in the Carling Black Label Cup but did not appear to be quite the same player as before.

The 28-year-old has played nine league matches this season but still appears to be some distance away from recapturing the form he enjoyed prior to the injury - epitomised in his display against Maritzburg United last week where he seemed to lack conviction on the ball.

Palacios, who has worked with Manyisa since his time in the club’s development, is nonetheless impressed with the commitment shown by Manyisa.

"He’s trying and he’s trying. You can see the effort he makes, it was big operation, a long recovery and he needs time," Palacios said of Manyisa.

"But, while he’s hungry to play, he’s running and marking and he understands. At least we're giving him the opportunity to play but there’s still a lot of recovery from anterior operation."

The Buccaneers are next in action tomorrow at Orlando Stadium against struggling Bloemfontein Celtic. Kick-off is at 19h30.
