Ajax Cape Town midfielder Mark Mayambela was humbled by the reception he received from Bloemfontein Celtic after the Absa Premiership match contested at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors defeated Siwelele 3-0 but that did not stop the home fans from paying homage to former player Mayambela following the final whistle.

'Professor', who even went to the stands to greet fans that were singing his name and clapping for him, explained that he was overcome with emotion.

"I am struggling to explain it. Really, I can't explain the feeling. It's just emotional," Mayambela tells

"Even after the game some of my ex-teammates like [Ditheko] Mototo called to share the emotional feeling. I have never received as much love in football than what I have experienced from Celtic fans.

"I started my professional football here. I got the nickname Professor here. I am humbled and want to say I am always grateful for their support in my football career."

Ajax are gearing up for an encounter with Chippa United in their next league fixture at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday. The Urban Warriors remain position 11 on the log and one point below the Chilli Boys.

"It was great to get the three points [against Celtic] especially away from home. It was our task and we just did that," said the 29-year-old.

"We're playing Chippa in our next game and it's important to get the three points and go to Christmas on a high note."
