Maritzburg United's Fadlu Davids laments Kwanda Mngonyama absence for Platinum Stars clash

Posted: 17 December 2016 Time: 12:00

Maritzburg United interim coach Fadlu Davids admits Kwanda Mngonyama's absence is likely to be felt in today's clash with Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The defender is suspended for the tie after picking up a fourth booking in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates on Tuesday.

"It’s a huge blow, Kwanda has been our go-to-guy in terms of… he has that warrior-like mentality and he’s the first guy you put on the team sheet. He's on the frontline and those are the players you need,’’ Davids says.

Meanwhile, Davids says his men can not afford to dwell on their victory over Bucs, pointing out how Cape Town City were humbled after their Telkom Knockout triumph with a 4-0 rout by Dikwena.

"Each game as it comes, we can’t be celebrating and get hammered like Platinum Stars’ 4-0 win over Cape Town City. So we have to keep our feet on the ground and that game is done and we have to put it behind us,’’ says Davids.

"But we have to analyse and try to improve on aspects that didn’t go well and that is the most important thing. We have to keep our feet on the ground, improve and take each game as it comes."

Kick-off is at 15h30 in Rustenburg.
