Giovanni Solinas praises Rooi Mahamutsa and Thamsanqa Teyise ahead of Bidvest Wits clash

Free State Stars coach Giovanni Solinas believes new signings Rooi Mahamutsa and Thamsanqa Teyise can help the team generate momentum and ease their relegation concerns.

The defenders both made their Stars debut in a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Baroka FC in midweek.

"These are two experienced players and on Wednesday they played very well. They helped the team to get the result," Solinas tells KickOff.com.

"I think in this situation we need experienced players because the experienced player relieves the pressure off and they have a good mentality.

"But I’m happy because in the last three games we have won two. Now we must keep working hard, move forward and think about the next game and that is the focus now. We have to believe in ourselves to get the results."

The Bethlehem-based outfit, who moved off the foot of the table by beating Baroka, next face title contenders Bidvest Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.

Solinas oversaw a 3-1 defeat of Wits in the Telkom Knockout on October 22.

However, the Italian has ample respect for Gavin Hunt's star-studded outfit, who trail log leaders Cape Town City by three points but with two matches in hand.

"Wits is very good team and this season I think they have improved the team a lot. So it will be a tough game for us and we will try to get the result. We need the result for our own situation but the win against Baroka FC was good for the mood and also for the table.

"But I think this season it is a very tough league and it is a well-balanced league. Every game is very important, every game makes the difference. I don’t see any team with weaknesses."

Stars are 15th on the table with 11 points from 13 matches - level on points with Baroka, and one behind Highlands Park, Ajax Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic and 11th-placed Platinum Stars.
