Maritzburg United interim coach Fadlu Davids has revealed that striker Andrea Fillecia has suffered a fresh injury setback.
Fillecia, along with Themba Shabalala, joined the Team of Choice from Free State Stars at the start of this season while both players were carrying long-term injuries.
The Belgian striker has played just two matches thus far, lasting just 45 minutes in the first league against Bloemfontein Celtic and came off the bench for the last 12 minutes against Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, Fileccia has been left out of the matchday squad ever since due to a knee injury, and Davids said the 24-year-old frontman suffered a relapse during his rehab recently.
"We will definitely have him back for our first game in February," said Davids after their 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates on Tuesday evening.
"He recovered from the knee [injury] but had a muscle problem in his process of recovery during rehabilitation, and he broke down again with a muscle problem.
"But he will be back on February 8, in the first game of the year against Polokwane City."
Fillecia scored six goals in 15 appearances for Ea Lla Koto before being hit with a knee injury against Celtic earlier this year, and was then allowed to undergo rehab back home in Belgium.
