Lebogang Manyama hails collective effort of Cape Town City

Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama has attributed his side’s success in the Telkom Knockout to a collective team effort.

City were crowned as Telkom Knockout champions after beating SuperSport United 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, crowning the club’s first major success in their history, having been formed just four months earlier.

Manyama, who has also been instrumental to the team's success so far this season, says the side’s good run is the results of everyone’s combined effort, yet has called his teammates to remain humble despite the early glory.

"We are doing well as a team,” he said. "It's a collective effort. But we must remain humble. We still have a long way to go.

"We complement each other and there is no star in the team. We work towards a common goal. It's work in progress,” he added.

Manyama has conceded that City will now be a hunted team in the league following their Cup victory.

"We are the team to beat now,” he said. “Things are going to get tough, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

City take on the very same opponents SuperSport in a league clash on Friday, but face off against Platinum Stars in a chance to extend their lead at the top of the standings before that on Tuesday.
