Rangers protest controversial loss

Rangers protest loss

Posted: 2009-03-02 20:33

Enugu Rangers have fired off a protest to the NFF over their loss last weekend to Gombe United.

Ranger Media Officer Foster Chime told KickOffNigeria.com that the hosts were awarded a penalty for a non-existent foul outside the box.

"We have asked the NPL to investigate the match and award it to Rangers as there was no handling of the ball by our defender Alex Nkume outside the 18-yard box," Chime said.

He also added that the referee conjured up 11 minutes of additional time.

It has been a bad week for Rangers, who were stripped of the point they got at Lobi Stars earlier this month by the NFF Organising and Disciplinary Committee.

Rangers played with 12 men for nearly two minutes during the game following a substitution mix-up.

The match officials for the game have also been suspended for the rest of the season.

It was better news for Bayelsa United, who were awarded three points and three goals for their abandoned game in Nasarawa last December.

The game was tied at 1-1 when the home fans disrupted play and the game was called off.

Should we not just shot down the league until we have our acts together instead of offering this sham for a league. THe officials and the teams are not ready to change! THe NFF and NFL are bereft of ideas on how to run a credible league. That is why we are not producing good players for the national teams. That is why our clubs get beaten by all comers at the continetal level. Since the NFF contrived to sabotage Enyimba, where have our reached on the continent? Look at our pitches! Look at the welfare of he players. Look at the ragtag jerseys they wear. Look at the empty stadiums! Look at the quality of play - very pedestrian and bereft of plots and strategies. What do the officials think they are doing. I feel ashamed anytime I see our league on broadcast. Let's shut the whole thing down and start all over. Then, no state government should be allowed to own any club. Let them concentrate on developing other sports at the grassroots and not use soccer as a cloak for their kleptomania. Enough is enough! Nonesense! Shhhhppp!

And somebody tell Nwosu that if we see any league player in his U-17 team we will shout and protest to CAF and FIFA. Enough!

CAN WE SEE THE DISGRACE THESE GUYS ARE SPEWING FORTH! I FEEL ASHAMED WHENEVER I SEE NIGERIA LEAGUE. IT IS NOT THE WORST LEAGUE THOUGH, BUT FOR OUR REPUTATION AND RANKING IN FOOTBALL, WE DON'T DESERVE THESE BULL****S!!!
@ AUSTIN, I THINK YOUR SUGGESTION IS JUST THE RIGHT WAY FORWARD. LET'S SHUT IT DOWN AND START AFRESH. MAYBE WE'LL GET IT RIGHT. SHAME ON NFL AND NFF.

The Best thing is not shutting down our league (you don't throw away the baby with the water). I believe that with good support from the NFF and the Nigerian fans the efforts the NPL is making could make our league better and one of the best in Africa.

Austin, does it mean that there's no one in the NPL who is 17yrs or below??

Sley: 2009-03-03 12:51

billion, the ans is NO. Can u name 1 player in 1st team in our leag below 17?

Thank you @Sley. Billion, you have a poser.
I played soccer to some level, and I remember team mate with a baby face being persuaded by a coach to register as U-13 when he was above 20! I was scandalized and said so in no uncertain terms. And I am repeating it here: there are no genuine U-17's in our league teams. If you want to see little boys then go to the academies and secondary schools. Shell Cup is a good fishing pond for U-17 players. NOT THE WAYO LEAGUE!

Thanx Doyin. Austin, Sley, did u read Doyin's comment about Enyeama's age? That shows that we don't always have age cheats in our local league. There're still U-17 in our premier league.
