Tokelo Rantie has spoken of his relief at finally breaking his scoring duck in Turkey after coming on at half-time and netting in a cup game this week.
Rantie struck in a 2-1 victory for Gençlerbirliği over giants Fenerbahce for his first goal for his new club in his eighth appearance for the side.
It was also his first goal in club football since netting a brace for then-English Championship side Bournemouth more than two years ago.
"I’m very happy that I can contribute to the team,” Rantie told reporters.
“Especially as my coach gave me a chance. I am happy to take good advantage of this chance and repay the faith in me. I believe I can do better. I will be better."
It was a typical Rantie goal as a ball was played behind the Fenerbahce defence and the Bafana Bafana forward used his electric pace to race clear and blast the ball past the goalkeeper.
Rantie will hope for another chance when Gençlerbirliği face bottom side Adanaspor in the league on Sunday.
"If we look at the last three games, we have got very good results. We have two away wins and one point with 10 players. This enhances the confidence of both our team and our coach. I hope the Adanaspor match will be a good result for us.”
