Ajax Cape Town game-changer Mark Mayambela said he would give his man of the match award to Rivaldo Coetzee after the 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mayambela displayed many fine touches throughout the game, with the most important one coming in the 73rd minute to finish off the game.
Two minutes after going 1-0 up through Thabo Mosadi, who also had a fine game, Mayambela executed a quick shoulder drop and stepover to eliminate Thabo Nthethe to set up Bantu Mzwakali for the two-goal cushion.
“Firstly, I would like to thank God for giving me another opportunity. All gratitude to the coach, gratitude to my teammates for always supporting me,” Mayambela said on SuperSport upon accepting his award.
“Even when things were down we kept on going and working hard, and it shows we are united as a team. I’m grateful for this award again, we’ve been working hard and now it paid off.
“Playing against a team like Sundowns with a great coach like Coach Pitso, with great players you know, I think the boys did well. As much as I’m the man of the match today, I think the whole team deserved it.
“I think I’m going to give this [award] to Rivaldo [Coetzee], I think he had a better game than me because he kept on stopping those goals.”
Coetzee, after being booked in the seventh minute when Percy Tau beat him for pace, recovered to have a strong 83 minutes and stopped Tau in a goalscoring position with an excellent ‘hook’ tackle.
