Bidvest Wits without Hlatshwayo, Mkhwanazi, Hlanti, Monare, Mlambo

Bidvest Wits have suffered a major setback with news that five of their key players will miss their match against SuperSport United this evening.

The current Absa Premiership log leaders have travelled to Nelspruit without Thulani Hlatshwayo, Buhle Mkhwanazi, Sifiso Hlanti, Xola Mlambo and Thabang Monare.

The skipper underwent surgery on a broken finger he sustained during an attempted mugging last week, and it is suspected that he will miss the next two weeks of action.

Mkhwanazi suffered a broken nose in their 2-2 draw against Highlands Park last week, and is due for cosmetic surgery later this week.

"Buhle's nose is completely broken, and one of his nostrils are blocked so he needs surgery," Wits team doctor Dr Lee Pillay tells

"Usually the bones in the nose heel by itself, but we need to free up his nasal cavity and the recovery time for that varies – it could take about five days [after surgery] before he's back with a brace."

Hlanti, who was sent off in their match last week, will serve the first of his two-match suspension against SuperSport and the second against Cape Town City on Friday.

New signing Siboniso Gaxa is expected to walk straight into the starting line-up, with Nazeer Allie and Bongani Khumalo likely to partner in the central defence, while Pentjie Zulu could slot in at left-back.

Meanwhile, Xola Mlambo and Thabang Monare are out with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively, and are progressing well but will not be rushed back, according to Dr Pillay.

The Clever Boys will clash with Matsatsantsa a Pitori at the Mbombela Stadium, with kick-off set for 19h30.
