Late strike stuns 10-man Wits

Posted: 23 November 2016 Time: 18:45

A late goal from Mothobi Mvala gave strugglers Highlands Park a 2-2 draw at 10man BidVest Wits in their Premier League clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday.

Highlands Park are still looking for their first league win under Gordon Igesund, and just a second of the season, but gave as good as they got against Wits.

Wits made the brighter opening but found themselves behind when Thulani Hlatshwayo committed a foul in the box and Thanduyise Khuboni made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Collins Mbesuma almost made it 2-0 when he crashed a shot against the woodwork, and Wits then drew level four minutes before halftime, Elias Pelembe providing the finish.

That should have seen the momentum swing in their favour, but three minutes later left-back Sifiso Hlanti was shown a red card for what was deemed a professional foul and Wits were down to 10 men.

Wits had the lead on 68 minutes when Buhle Mkhwanazi headed them in front and Eleazar Rodgers then steered another headed effort over the bar.

Surprise Moriri came on for his debut with 17 minutes remaining as the visitors pushed for the equaliser.

And as Wits clung on for dear life, it was Highlands Park who had the final say as Mothobi Mvala leveled for them with virtually the final kick of the game.
