George Maluleka downplays SuperSport United threat

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has brushed off SuperSport United’s hammering of Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates a fortnight ago, and is confident they won’t suffer the same fate.

Amakhosi welcome Matsatsantsa a Pitori to the FNB Stadium for an Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday evening, hoping to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

Stuart Baxter's side currently going through a purple patch, having managed 13 goals in their last four league matches including their 6-1 thrashing of the Buccaneers recently,

Maluleka, though, says the thought of being beaten, less so by such a huge margin, has not even crossed their minds.

“I don’t think we’re even thinking about the game that they played against Pirates, when they won six,” responded ‘Mido’.

“I always say that, on the day, if we do all the right things and make sure we get our objectives right, then I think we’ll move forward as a team."

Rather than trying to nullify the opposition, Maluleka stresses the need to try and make things work for themselves in order to get out of their recent slump.

“We need to make sure that we focus on ourselves, make sure we do all the right things in the game, and we should be able to pull through.”

Chiefs, who were topping the log standings less than a month ago, have since slipped to sixth place following two goalless draws and a loss in their last three league games.

Kick-off of this evening’s clash is scheduled for 19h30.
