George Maluleka: Kaizer Chiefs not done and dusted after Free State Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns losses

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka remains optimistic as Amakhosi look to overcome back-to-back defeats to Free State Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Saturday, as The Brazilians showed their class to come from behind and get the win.

Maluleka, though admitting the disappointment of the result, is adamant on turning things around when they host fellow Tshwane rivals SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

“I think it’s always disappointing to drop points or lose such games, but we have to look forward,” said Maluleka.

“We have a very important game against SuperSport United, so we need to make sure that we rectify all the mistakes we made in the previous games. We have to try and push for the next game.”

Prior to their recent defeats, Chiefs went through a run of good results that saw them top the Absa Premiership standings at one point. The Naturena-based outfit, however, have not won since their 2-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town over a month ago, and ‘Mido’ feels it has been solely down to their scoring troubles.

“Getting the ball in the back of the net – I think that was the difference [in our change in fortunes],” he added.

“If you saw we also had a couple of draws, and those are games we could have won easily. I said last week that luck wasn’t on our side in those games.

“But we’re still looking to turn the corner, and we’re also looking forward to the coming games because there are still a lot of positives that came from some of those matches.

“We’re not done and dusted, there’s a lot of work still to be done.”

Kick-off of their clash against third-placed Matsatsantsa is scheduled for 19h30.
