Eleazar Rodgers wants killer mentality at Bidvest Wits following narrow win over 10-man Platinum Stars

Bidvest striker Eleazar Rodgers feels the log leaders made life difficult for themselves in a 1-0 victory against 10-man Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.
Rodgers’ second league goal of the season from the penalty spot helped the Students reclaim the Absa Premiership summit with 19 points from seven matches.
The 31-year-old, however, was not entirely satisfied with the win over his former employers.
“Look, they went down to 10 men very early in the game and the idea was to capitalise on our numerical advantage but that just wasn’t the case,” Rodgers tells KickOff.com.
“And it’s not like we didn’t create any chances. We did but we just couldn’t convert them. It’s important that we as players learn to kill off teams when the chances are there, especially if we have an advantage like we did.
“Going forward we’ll have to rectify these things as it could come back to haunt us in certain games. That said I think we can be pleased with the three points as we just returned from the international break. I think the win was very important for us to keep the momentum going.”
Meanwhile, the Bafana Bafana international hopes to better the 12 goals he scored for Santos during the 2011/12 PSL season.
“That’s my objective but I still have a long way to go to reach that mark. The reason why I took the penalty wasn’t because I wanted to push up my goal tally, no.
“I felt I’ve worked hard during the game and I wanted to get a goal against my former club.
“Besides, I felt confident and in a good frame of mind to take the penalty. Like I said if we convert more of our chances we create than I can definitely go beyond the 12 goals I scored for Santos.”
