Collins Mbesuma disappointed in Highlands Park display

Posted: 20 November 2016 Time: 18:25

Highlands Park striker Collins Mbesuma feels the entire side “needs to come to the party” following their dramatic loss to Golden Arrows.

Having contained Abafana Bes’thende for 86 minutes, all their hard work was undone as Danny Phiri scored with four minutes to go and steal the three points, much to Mbesuma’s dismay.

“It’s disappointing,” he told SuperSportTV after the game. “I think in the first half we had the game, but in the second half I don’t know what happened – we lost concentration. In the PSL, if you make one mistake, you get punished.

“As players we have to push each and every game, and we are looking ahead to the next game on Wednesday, but we need to work hard and push more.”

Mbesuma often drifted wider and deeper in attempt to get the ball, movements which he feels were necessary in a game where he was being starved of the ball upfront.

“When things are not happening, as a senior player you have to move around – you can’t stay in the box if it’s not coming,” he explained. “So I dropped a bit to the number 10 position.

“But in the second half we didn’t play well, it was very disappointing … but it’s a new team, new players, and we have to come to the party.”

The loss leaves the Lions of the North in 14th place in the Absa Premiership standings, with a tough test against Bidvest Wits their next assignment on Wednesday.
