Cape Town City's Robyn Johannes lauds Eric Tinkler's fearless philosophy ahead of Chippa United game

Cape Town City FC defender Robyn Johannes has lauded the influence of coach Eric Tinkler for the new franchise's impressive debut in the Absa Premiership.

Johannes has pointed to Tinkler’s fearless football philosophy as one of the key factors for the side's good run of form.

City are unbeaten in their previous four games in all competitions, while they also have the chance to reach their first cup final if they overcome Free State Stars in the Telkom Cup on November 26.

“That’s something the coach emphasises a lot… not to fear any team in the league, even if it’s the big guns like Pirates, Chiefs or Sundowns,” Johannes tells KickOff.com.

“But at the same time he preaches that we should also be constructive in our approach as well. So we’re still striving to find that balance the coach wishes to have in our team.

“But we cannot ignore the coach's influence and in my books he deserves a lot of credit for the way he marshals the team. He obviously knows the PSL very well as a coach and as a [former] player.”

Meanwhile, the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates man is confident they can defeat Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this afternoon (15h30).

“They play a high-risk game and this I think will play into our hands. We have lot of pace up front and we have shown that we can hurt a team on the counter attack.

“But the focus shouldn’t be too much on them. We should look at ourselves and control what we can. I think our transitional play can improve a bit but we’re still improving.

“I think if we apply ourselves with the same fearless approach against Chippa we could walk away with all three points,” Johannes concludes.
