Platinum Stars will be without key duo Vuyo Mere and Robert Ng'ambi against Bidvest Wits

Platinum Stars will be without veteran stars Vuyo Mere and Robert Ng’ambi ahead of Saturday's home clash with Bidvest Wits.

The duo were injured in the 1-0 victory at Lamontville Golden Arrows before the FIFA break and have not recovered in time to face the table-topping Clever Boys.

“Vuyo and Robert are still holding injuries from the game against Golden Arrows. They won’t be taking part in Saturday night’s match. We have more than enough confidence in whoever comes in to play,” Johnson told his club’s website.

Stars have not won at home since the opening day of the league season, and have not even managed a goal in their last three games at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace that have all ended in defeat.

“A big factor for us is that we have not been doing well at home. We would like to change that,” Johnson says. “We got points in our away games and we would like to bring that effort and mentality into the game [against Wits]. Hopefully we are able to get something out of the game.

“We haven’t started well. In this stage we find ourselves coming back from two hard fought games, where we got four points from Chippa United and Golden Arrows. We have done our preparations. The players are looking good.

“Wits are one of the in-form teams so far. They have invested in a lot of quality players. In the league they play good football. They are number one on the log.

“For us the fact that they are number means it is definitely going to be a good game. We are going to put our best foot forward and hopefully we can come out with something.

“We will do as best as we can. Tactically we have arranged ourselves how we can play attacking wise and defensively also nullify all the attacks from Wits.”
