Ajax Cape Town have roped in MultiChoice Diski Challenge coach Vladislav Heric to sit on the first team bench as assistant coach for this weekend’s encounter against Maritzburg United.
The reserve team coach was given the nod by new head coach Stanley Menzo, with regular assistant Mich D’Avray unavailable for the encounter.
“Stanley called me to help him for a while, and asked me to sit with him on the bench for tomorrow’s match, as assistant coach Mich D’Avray is away attending personal business,” Heric tells KickOff.com.
With over a decade of experience in South African football, and having coached the Team of Choice before, Heric is confident he has added value in the build up to Saturday’s Absa Premiership clash.
“We’ve been together in training all week, preparing the team for the Maritzburg United game,” he continues. “I tried to help him as much as possible with my experience in this country, and at Maritzburg as well.”
The 50-year-old Serbian says he has a fantastic relationship with Menzo, and has enjoyed heling him prepare the first team for action this week.
“We have a very good relationship and a good connection with each other - we are both from Europe, so we understand each other very well,” he says. “He has seen that I’ve tried to help him as much as I can, and taken responsibility in helping the club get out from our difficult position on the log.”
Basement-dwellers Ajax are yet to record a win this season, yet Heric is confident their first three-points will be earned at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.
“Obviously this is not a position Ajax deserve to be in, but we must prove this on the field and be more committed,” he says. “We have worked very hard, instilled discipline, and I believe we can get the result tomorrow.”
Kick-off is set for 8.15pm.
