Tiyani Mabunda accepts knocks for Bafana cause against Senegal in World Cup qualifier

Posted: 12 November 2016 Time: 19:01

Bafana Bafana newcomer Tiyani Mabunda says he is willing to take some knocks on the field if it helps the team bring pride to the nation.

Mabunda was left with a bandaged head after toiling in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Senegal at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

"It wasn't easy in this game, as you can see I got a knock but it is nothing compared to what we have done for the nation," said Mabunda, who was only called up by coach Shakes Mashaba in midweek following an injury to Dean Furman.

"If this is what it takes for us to make the nation proud then I'm willing to go for it.

"I'm just grateful to the crowd who came out in their numbers to cheer us on. It wasn't easy, at times we were getting tired but their singing and shouting really gave us a push.

"I'm glad that we got them the points that was required, and hopefully the nation is proud," concluded the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder.
