Daniel Mudau lauds Mamelodi Sundowns' Tiyani Mabunda for his patience and discipline

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Daniel ‘Mambush’ Mudau believes that midfielder Tiyani Mabunda is destined to be the club's next captain after Hlompho Kekana.

Mudau recently awarded the 28-year-old Mabunda with the jersey he wore during the BP Top 8 final - the pair wear the same number 13 jersey.

The 48-year-old former striker says he would be hard pressed to find a player more deserving of the special gift and praised Mabunda for his hard work, respect and discipline both on and off the field.

"He is workaholic. I think he is going to be the next captain after Hlompho [Kekana] at Sundowns. He believes in God, he believes in himself," Mudau tells

“He gives respect to everyone irrespective of age and position in the society. He is very humble boy."

Mambush also reserved special praise for Mabunda's patience as he bided his time at the Brazilians, going out on loan to Free State Stars and even spending time in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge ranks.

Mabunda's career has taken off in the recent year, a late Bafana Bafana call up the culmination of years of hard work since he relocated to Chloorkop from Black Leopards in 2011.

“I watched him at Leopards. I watched him at Free State Stars. He came back to Sundowns and he never complained and remained patient," said Mudau.

"He was given second chance and grabbed it with both hands. I was given the jersey [13] by Mike Ntombela and also became captain at Sundowns. I have no doubt that Mabunda will not disappoint."
