Chippa United's Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi expects a test in Saturday's crunch World Cup qualifier with Algeria in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will host Africa's top-ranked side at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium looking to build on their victory in Zambia last month.
“Algeria is rated first in Africa as things stand and considering the fact that they drew at home to Cameroon they will be hungry to fight against us. We are not expecting an easy game but we are equal to the task," Akpeyi told his club's website.
Akpeyi, who won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics as an over-age player, pointed out his nation are eager to make up for their failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and next year's African Nations Cup.
“We lost out to Brazil 2014 and also the Nations Cup in Gabon next year so this is the only chance for us to redeem the image of our national team.
“I am sure that I speak on behalf of every player in the national team. We are ready to fight for the badge, make history and emerge again and it all starts on November 12 against Algeria.”
Akpeyi was called up as cover for the tie following an injury to Carl Ikeme. He is up against Ikechukwu Ezenwa for game-time on the weekend.
