Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola feels the team redeemed themselves against Highlands Park following their humiliation at the hands of SuperSport United.
Pirates beat Park 2-1 in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals on Saturday, bouncing back from a 6-1 rout by SuperSport in the league on Tuesday.
The loss to Matsatsantsa - which matched the club's worst scoreline in 80 years - triggered the resignation of head coach Muhsin Ertugral.
Bucs' head of development Augusto Palacios has since been installed as caretaker coach of the Soweto giants.
"Obviously we needed to sit down, regroup and think about the negatives and all the mistakes we made in the previous game and take it from there," Makola told SuperSport TV after the contest at Orlando Stadium.
"I mean we needed to redeem ourselves today and we surely did that.
"Obviously it was tough, it was really tough. They came, took shots and created a couple of chances, especially in the first half. We created a lot of chances as well, pity we didn't take all of them. But I'm just glad we are through to the semi-finals."
The Bafana Bafana international added: "Going into a cup game is motivation on its own. I mean we said we needed a cup this season. This is one of the easiest cups you can get, only play four games and you're in the final. So it's motivation on its own and we're gonna try and go all the way to the final."
