Thuso Phala scored his 50th PSL goal against Orlando Pirates in 6-1 win

Posted: 2 November 2016 Time: 17:43

SuperSport United midfielder Thuso Phala scored his 50th goal for a PSL club last night as his team shamed Orlando Pirates in a 6-1 humiliation.

Phala’s second-half strike in the rain-drenched match at Mbombela Stadium was his 50th in domestic club football in all competitions.

By reaching that half-century mark of goals in the colours of a local club, he now becomes only the 13th player currently contracted to a PSL team to reach this feat.

Last night’s strike was the third of the season for Phala, who also scored against Highlands Park and Maritzburg United.

Since joining SuperSport in June 2013, the 30-year-old has scored 23 goals for Matsatsantsa and recently returned to the latest Bafana Bafana squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

In a professional career that started during the 2006/07 season, he scored once for HP Silver Stars, then once again for Kaizer Chiefs before leaving Mamelodi Sundowns with none to join Platinum Stars, where he excelled with 15 strikes.

With veteran forward Katlego Mashego also making his return to domestic football via Chippa United last night, there are now 13 players with at least 50 goals currently playing in the PSL.

Highlands Park forward Collins Mbesuma is at the top with 101 goals followed by Mashego with 84.

Below is the list of players (currently playing in the PSL) with at least 50 career goals for a PSL club:

Collins Mbesuma – 101
Katlego Mashego – 84
Daine Klate – 72
Anthony Laffor – 71
Eleazar Rodgers – 66
Bernard Parker – 63
