Eleazar Rodgers says helping Bidvest Wits to a win over Ajax Cape Town brings him greater joy than scoring his first Absa Premiership goal against his former club.
Rodgers’ equaliser after the hour-mark started the Clever Boys’ resurgence against the Urban Warriors, spurring them onto a 2-1 victory at the Cape Town Stadium with Mogakolodi Ngele netting the winner just before the final whistle.
“I’m more pleased with the three points than my personal achievement,” Rodgers told KickOff.com.
“I know our coach hasn’t won in the Mother City for quite some time and it was good to have contributed to the victory, especially for the coach.
“The win was also important for us after last week’s disappointing result in the Telkom Knockout Cup against Free State Stars. We needed to bounce back and we did.”
Rodgers is of the opinion that he expected a sterner challenge from the Urban Warriors who are yet to register their first win this season in all competitions.
“It was a good game but it wasn’t really that tough playing against them. To be honest I expected Ajax to come at us harder seeing that they are playing at home and looking for their first victory.
“That said both team were very offensive and it was always going to come down to who takes their chances on the day and tonight we came back to win the game,” Rodgers concluded.
