Roger de Sa backs Prince Nxumalo against Bidvest Wits in Nathan Paulse absence

Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa has hinted that Prince Nxumalo could get the nod in the absence of Nathan Paulse in tonight's clash against Bidvest Wits.

Urban Warriors are without top marksman Paulse, who has been sidelined after picking up an injury in their 2-0 league defeat to Kaizer Chiefs 10 days ago.

The Cape-based side has struggled to find the back of the net this season, having managed to score just three times in their opening five league fixtures.

De Sa has since explained why things have not been going well in front of goal for his team this season.

"Obviously, we started off with the three strikers, Paulse, Prince and Lupeta, while Morris has always been a fourth striker for us,” De Sa told reporters.

“With Nathan finding good form at the beginning of the season, and then Prince and Lupeta picking up injuries in the pre-season, it opened the door for him.

"He has done very well and is currently the [joint] second top goal scorer in the PSL, if I’m not mistaken.

"[Paulse] had started pretty well and for Prince, with the illness that put him in hospital for a couple of weeks – that also didn’t help.

"Lupeta's hamstring has just come right, so it is still a juggling act to see which one will be a better option [tonight]."

De Sa, though, feels Nxumalo has shown good signs at training and might get the nod ahead of the stocky Portuguese frontman against the Clever Boys this evening.

“Prince did show good signs at training, despite not being hundred percent fit, and looking at his shape, that's what we went with.

"So, right now, probably Prince is leading the pack, but Lupeta is hot under his heels,” he concluded.

Kick-off for tonight's clash at the Cape Town Stadium is 19h30.
