Bidvest Wits winger Daine Klate has moved into second on the all-time scorers list of currently active players

BidVest Wits midfielder Daine Klate has moved into second position in the list of all-time top goalscorers of players currently contracted to PSL clubs.

Klate scored the consolation with an unusual right foot finish in Wits’ 3-1 defeat to Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout over the weekend.

That was the 72nd goal that he has scored in club colours since he made his debut in the PSL back in the 2004/05 season.

Klate scored his first ever goal in professional football on January 22, 2005 against Bush Bucks while in the colours of SuperSport United.

With his latest goal the 31-year-old has overtaken Mamelodi Sundowns forward Anthony Laffor, whose 71 goals keeps him in third place.

Highlands Park striker Collins Mbesuma leads with 101 goals that he has scored for all the clubs that he has played for in the PSL.

However, it is Klate’s goal has him as the only midfielder in the top 10 scorers of all time, proving just how useful a winger he is.

Klate scored a combined 41 goals during his two spells with SuperSport United, netted 16 at Orlando Pirates and is still finding the back of the net at Wits, where he has scored 15 to date.

Below is the list of players (currently playing in the PSL) with at least 50 career goals:

Collins Mbesuma – 101
Daine Klate – 72
Anthony Laffor – 71
Eleazar Rodgers – 65
Bernard Parker – 63
Nathan Paulse – 61
Erwin Isaacs – 60
Lehlohonolo Majoro – 58
Khama Billiat – 56
Kingstone Nkhatha – 54
Robert Ng’ambi – 52
